Qualifications to Enroll
Cumberland County Schools – Driver Education Program Overview
Eligibility:
Students must be:
- Between 14½ and 18 years old 
- Actively enrolled in a public, private, charter, or licensed home school within Cumberland County 
Registration Guidelines
- Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. 
Virtual Classes
Includes students from:
- Cumberland International 
- Cross Creek Early College 
- Cumberland Virtual Academy 
- Cumberland Polytechnic 
- Massey Hill Classical High School 
- Reid Ross Classical High School 
- Homeschool and Private Schools - Registration is also on a first-come, first-served basis. 
 
Important Notes:
- No re-enrollment: 
 Students who fail the course will not be allowed to re-enroll in Driver Education.
- Students age 18 or older: - Not required to take Driver Education by law 
- May apply directly for a learner’s permit or license at the NC DMV 
- If choosing to enroll in classroom instruction: - Must obtain a learner’s permit before scheduling the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training
