Cumberland County Schools – Driver Education Program Overview

Eligibility:
Students must be:

• Between 14½ and 18 years old

• Actively enrolled in a public, private, charter, or licensed home school within Cumberland County

Registration Guidelines

• Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Virtual Classes

Includes students from:

• Cumberland International

• Cross Creek Early College

• Cumberland Virtual Academy

• Cumberland Polytechnic

• Massey Hill Classical High School

• Reid Ross Classical High School

• Homeschool and Private Schools

  • Registration is also on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Notes:

• No re-enrollment:
  Students who fail the course will not be allowed to re-enroll in Driver Education.

• Students age 18 or older:

  • Not required to take Driver Education by law

  • May apply directly for a learner’s permit or license at the NC DMV

  • If choosing to enroll in classroom instruction:

    • Must obtain a learner’s permit before scheduling the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training
